The Santo André Technology Park is now accepting applications for the Citizen Science Training Course for Educators, a free initiative aimed at education professionals interested in developing teaching practices that are more inquiry-based, technology-driven, and connected to students’ real-life experiences.
The training will take place on May 9, 16, 23, and 30, 2026—always on Saturdays, from 8:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m.—at the Innovation Center of the Santo André Technology Park, located at Rua Visconde de Taunay, 70, Bangu, in Santo André. In total, up to 20 spots will be available, with a limit of two people per participating institution.
Organized by SAVOYA—the Innovation Program of the Santo André Technology Park—the course aims to present, in a practical and accessible way, approaches to integrating science, technology, and education in school and educational settings. The training is based on the concept of Citizen Science, an approach in which educators, students, and the community can actively participate in the production of knowledge through the observation, collection, analysis, and interpretation of real-world data.
With a total duration of 12 hours, the course will be conducted in a hybrid format, consisting of 8 hours of in-person instruction and 4 hours of online instruction via an asynchronous digital learning path. The goal is to support educators in creating investigative projects that address the challenges faced by adolescents and young people in school settings, fostering critical thinking, creativity, collaboration, and the resolution of real-world problems.
Throughout the sessions, participants will explore topics such as the use of technologies and sensors for data collection and interpretation, STEAM methodologies, maker culture, project-based learning, and innovative, inquiry-based teaching practices.
More than just providing tools, the training aims to foster a new educational approach to science and technology: one that transforms the classroom into a space for experimentation, discovery, and active student participation in understanding the world around them.
For the Santo André Technology Park, this initiative reinforces its commitment to bringing the innovation ecosystem closer to education, expanding access to knowledge and fostering the development of new generations that are better prepared to face the scientific, technological, and social challenges of the present and the future.
Certificates will be issued to participants who attend at least 75% of the in-person sessions—equivalent to three sessions—and complete the asynchronous digital track.
